Lafrance illustrates stamp

TYRONE, Ont.—The Beijing Summer Olympics may be over but that doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy the Canadian Olympic stamp designed by local illustrator Laurie Lafrance.
Lafrance says the hardest part about designing this stamp was having to keep it a secret

After being selected to design a stamp honouring Canada’s Olympic team at this summer’s Beijing Games, q30 Design of Toronto commissioned Lafrance to illustrate its vision.

"They proposed an illustrative approach, looking somewhat like a Chinese brushstroke. We wanted to keep it black and white and red and have lots of energy and pride in it," says Lafrance.

In addition to the stamp, Lafrance did separate illustrations for the first day cover, cancellation stamp, and the stamp booklet cover and interior.

“After we had the stamp solidified then I just let my mind go crazy and my hand go crazy on ideas like everything that was Olympic.” Contact: www.laurielafrance.com
