Driven designer launches own agency
VICTORIA—With his freelance work growing, John Skipp has decided to set up his own shop. For several years, Skipp took on side contracts while working at several different local design agencies. Now he’s ready to do his part-time freelance work full-time.

“I decided to make the jump and move away from [agency life] and go out on my own,” says Skipp.
A former senior designer at Artemis PR & Design, Skipp now operates under Creative Licence. His clients include Marlin Travel, BC Ferries, Holland America and Canadian Biker magazine, an area Skipp says he’d like to further explore.
“I’d like to branch out and take on the Canadian biker industry. A lot of people are so focused on motorcycling there is a lot of horrible design work coming out of there and I’d like to see that improved,” says Skipp, who wants to target motorcycling tradeshows and dealerships.
