Holey font
UTRECHT, NL—In an effort to be evermore environmentally conscious, Colin Willems of Dutch design firm Spranq created a font that uses less ink.

New Dutch typeface uses less ink

Willems experimented to see how much of a letter can be removed and still be readable. The sans serif, called Ecofont, is full of holes. Small circles in each letterform means the font uses up to 20% less ink. Used in small point sizes, the holes are virtually invisible.
Ecofont, based on Vera Sans, is an open-source typeface available for free. Contact: www.ecofont.eu
