Designer debuts first font
ROUYN-NORANDA, QC—To mark his first foray into type design, André Simard chose to name his new typeface Migration. “The typeface marks my ‘migration’ from working with typefaces as a graphic designer to designing them as well,” Simard tells Design Edge Canada.

Four years in the making, the sans serif was released last month by International Typeface Corporation in five weights and italics – from a svelte Thin to a robust Black.
Simard decided to evolve his letter sketches into a fully-fledged typeface after receiving encouragement from members of the online typography community Typophile.
“I drew Migration Sans with design traits hat I repeatedly looking for in faces for my design projects,” says Simard. “ I wanted to give it advantages I knew graphic designers would appreciate.” This includes a large x-height and slightly condensed proportions, a two-storied a, and bowl-and-loop g, which distinguish the design and aid in text readability.
Simard is currently working on his second face – a serif. Contact: www.itcfonts.com
