Torstar launches new stock photo agency
TORONTO—Torstar recently announced the launch of GetStock.com, a stock photo agency boasting more than 10 million rights-managed and royalty free images. The photos come from a number of sources, including Alamy Images, Aurora Photos, TopFoto, IPNstock and the Toronto Star.
The new agency has images suitable for editorial, advertising, marketing, broadcast and film. Business development manager Gary O’Connell says prices (all listed in Canadian dollars) are in the mid-range, slightly more expensive than microstock.
The Star has for some years made its images available to paying clients, though only about 50,000 of GetStock’s 10 million images come from the paper’s archives. While editorial is still expected to be an important source of business for GetStock, the opportunity to move into the advertising market was a major incentive for expansion. “We wanted to move more aggressively into the marketplace,” O’Connell says. “We thought, ‘We’re already doing it. Why don’t we step it up?’”
About 2.5 million images are royalty-free, while the remaining 7.5 million are rights-managed. Contact: www.getstock.com
