“It's kind of a hybrid,” says Julie Jenkinson, co-owner of BaumgartJenkinson. “We are combining our experiences as artists and wanted to make it a new home for the business as well.”
Located on Queen Street West, the studio will house BaumgartJenkinson graphic design agency and a gallery that will feature Jenkinson’s new line of clothing, prints, art and cards. The gallery will also showcase the work of BaumgartJenkinson's other half, Michael Baumgart, as well as work from other artists.
“We are really thinking that, in terms of our market, we are reaching out to graphic designers, artists and gallery owners. That is probably the market that will be interested in what we are doing. I think it is a bit of a new concept for Toronto,” says Jenkinson, whose art has been exhibited in Toronto and Washington, D.C.
BaumgartJenkinson originated in New York and moved its design studio to Toronto in 2001. The firm offers a wide range of design services including print, editorial, signage, interactive and packaging.
The grand opening for the new studio will be held on Thursday April 16. Contact: www.juliejenkinson.com; baumgartjenkinson.com
