Rethink designer is nominated for a Grammy
VANCOUVER—Album art designed by Rethink Communications partner Jeff Harrison for local band Splitting Adam is one of five Best Recording Package nominees for next years Grammy awards.
Rethink was recommended through a friend of a friend. The concept for the album art was taken from one of the band’s songs about the character Adam’s head. The cover splits Adam to reveal an animated 3D hologram that morphs from a passive lamb into an aggressive ape, illustrating Adam’s internal struggle. The CD and insert artwork document Adam’s mental state and include vital stats and final prognosis. The cover shot of Adam is a compilation of all five band members.
The hologram on the album was done in Russia, contracted out through the Royal Holographic Museum in Victoria, B.C., says Harrison. “It was quite the process because it was back and forth with samples and trying to get it so it was the right level of animation,” he says. “We also worked with Vancouver’s Goldtooth Creative who took the photography that we used. We shot all the band members in a 360-degree environment.”
The Grammys will be awarded at the end of January in Los Angeles and Harrison says he and the Splitting Adam team will be there hoping for a win. Harrison was nominated for a Juno in 2007 for his album work with the band Vonnegut Dollhouse. Contact: Rethinkcommunications.com, Goldtoothcreative.com, Myspace.com/splittingadam
