Eye Buy Art website connects artists to buyers
TORONTO—Emily McInnes started Eye Buy Art as a means to connect artists trying to get their work to market with friends who want art on their walls. “I wanted to build that bridge,” says the former Contact Photography Festival director of creative development. “The internet is the perfect forum for it. It allows people to experience the art on their own terms.”
The design of the site is meant to be uncomplicated and friendly to let the art shine through, says McInnes. The 12 artists who appear on the site have all been through the Flash Forward photography competition judging process. Flash Forward is a bi-annual competition from the Magenta Foundation that recognizes the best in emerging photographers. “I am calling Eye Buy Art a sister organization to Flash Forward because at the moment, I am only accepting artists that have been accepted to the festival,” she says.
A new artist’s work will be added to the site each month, says McInnes, and one new image added each week. The site is free for artists to display their work which cost from between $25 to $2000, to purchase. “I am really excited to be a part of this new way to connect people to art work,” she says. “We are giving currency to emerging art.” Contact: Eyebuyart.com
