Good Company designs charitable campaign
VANCOUVER—In a season where charitable campaigns often tug at heartstrings to get consumers to pull out their wallets, Vancouver-based Good Company Communications has taken a different approach. Working with Inter Pares, a charity dedicated to issues such as violence against women and peace building, Katherine Dodds, founder and creative director, says that Givesomethingbig.com aims to be fresh and friendly while nostalgic.

The site allows visitors to purchase 10 e-cards which can be personalized with one of four messages, including social justice and equality, and animations. “This campaign is meant to feel good about giving, not to make people feel guilty about it,” says Dodds. “We wanted to do something that uses all the new media tools but feels almost nostalgic.”

A look of nostalgia also inspired the colour choices on the site, says Dodds. “We wanted the site to look high-tech, the letters to look almost homemade,” she says. “Something almost classic.”

Terry Sutherland, campaign graphic designer, says the Give Something Big banner is set in Goudy Bold Italic, to continue the festive, old-fashioned arts and crafts feeling. The text face is Georgia, sidebars are Hevetica Neue Condensed and the gift tags use Emmascript. Contact: Givesomethingbig.com, Hellocoolworld.com

I guess the M.C. Escher inspiration works like this... the site architecture is so bad that you quickly get lost and at some point you arrive back at the beginning. The end.

A loosely inspired piece? I really don't see a trail of Escher in here.

I wonder if the photo layout is supposed to be a clever attempt at illustrating how they're so super...
